TWA career spotlight: Mankind
This edition of TWA career spotlight will recap the career of one of the greats in TWA Mankind. Mankind made his debut at WrestleFest in March of 1999 in a match against the evil dentist Isaac Yankem D.D.S. This was a match that captivated the audience as Mankind and the evil dentist battled to the upperdeck with the fans. In the end Mankind would fall short to Yankem with three hard broom handle shots to the head, and would take the loss. Mankind would make another appearance at the Firestorm where he was pinned by the Russian Bear, feeling the dissapointment again. Mankind would captain a team at Strive to Survive and join forces with Hawk and Balls Mahoney to take on the team of Blue Blazer, Marty Janetty, and Ken Shamrock. Mankind's team would fall short in this contest. Mankind would follow it up in the next pay per view Smackdown, by getting his biggest opportunity in his career. He found himself the challenger for Bad Ass Billy Gunn's IC Title. This was arguably the most entertaining match on one of TWA's best cards ever, however again, Mankind would fall short. Mankind took a few months off after the loss to soul search, and vowed to be back for King of the Tramp with a new attitude and mind set.
At the King of the Tramp in 99 Mankind came out and Breezed through rounds 1 and 2 and found him matched up with the Blue Blazer. This match was an entertaining in ring match with many 2 counts. Mankind would prove his focus dodging a legdrop from the Blazer, then following it up with a big splash for the 1-2-3. Mankind was the King of the Tramp, the first TWA superstar to ever earn the honor. At Trick or Die 2 in October of 1999, Mankind would look to build off the momentum of becoming King of the Tramp, as he would challenge along with Triple H, 7 month reigning Hardcore Champion Gangrel. This would be a Triple Threat Hardcore Match for the Title. This match was certainly one of the best on the card as all three men put their bodies on the line batting for the title. Mankind would win the Hardcore title on this night ending the longest reign ever held by Gangrel of 7 months. This was Mankind's first ever taste of TWA gold. He was quickly becoming one of TWA's greatest competetors of all time with his list of accomplishments.
Mankind wrestled his last match for the TWA in 2000 at Redemption, when he defended the Hardcore Title in a fatal 4-way match against Bubba Dudley, Stone Cold, and Russian Bear. This was the most Hardcore Match on a card that saw a lot of great action. Mankind would retain the gold and go out on top, ending a storied TWA career.
